How to get rid of mice when you have birds?

well we have this bird aviary thingy and about 5 birds, and the bird seed is attracting mice and we are worried about snakes coming next. we don't want to use stuff that kills mice because we have two dogs and we don't want them to get sick. if anyone has an idea of what to do please tell, thanks heaps :)
