Whenever I use the word "non" such as non-contradictory, would it be correct to always use "non" then the dash?

Hello friends, this query of mine is pertaining to a Chicago style essay and i cannot agree if when i use the term "non" do i have to always put the dash or can i just leave a space (with no dash) between non and contradictory (for example) or conversely, could i write them condensed (such as non contradictory) and be grammatically correct?. Are there only certain words one could use the condensed "non" or the "non-"? I read a journal article online that used their "non" term in the same article in both condensed and separated forms such as "nonwestern" and "non-feminism" i am very confused about the difference, could someone ore educated in English grammar and word placement please clarify this for me?
