Regarding the currrent Stella Artois commercial - What is the significance of the pineapple?

The man in the commercial hands the cleric a wrapped pineapple and then later, when the policeman comes to the window, the man is warned and he leaves. This leads me to think he is a smuggler of some kind, but does the pineapple have some, perhaps, literary reference that I am simply missing?
