Japanese Pop Culture. 10 points to the best answer!?

I've been doing a sociology project on pop culture in Japan, and I was wondering if you guys knew of any major people or things that you could tell me about? I don't want to talk about people who aren't really that big of a deal. Some of the things that I have so far include unbeatable banzuke, ninja warrior, manga and anime.
